Today we’d like to introduce you to Kadijah Oliver.
Hi Kadijah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story honestly started with vision long before I had the resources, connections, or even a full roadmap. I’m Kadijah “Kandi” Oliver, originally from Ozark, Alabama, and I’ve always known I was called to create, lead, and build something bigger than myself. Even as a child, I never really saw myself working inside of a box forever. I knew I wanted ownership, impact, and freedom to help people in a meaningful way.
What’s interesting is that creativity first became a form of healing and self-care for me. I started teaching myself graphic design, branding, flyer creation, and website design simply because I loved bringing ideas to life. Over time, people began noticing my work and asking me to create for their businesses, churches, organizations, and events. That passion eventually turned into Kandi & Co. Productions in 2017.
As my brand grew, so did my desire to tell stories visually in a deeper way. In 2019, I launched Kandi Kam Photography, where I specialize in portraits, weddings, branding, and storytelling imagery. Photography became more than taking pictures for me. It became about preserving emotion, legacy, and moments people can never get back.
Alongside entrepreneurship, I pursued higher education while balancing multiple responsibilities. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Professional Health Sciences with a concentration in Healthcare Management from the University of South Alabama and later earned my Master of Health Administration in December 2025. I also serve in the military and have balanced entrepreneurship, education, leadership, and service simultaneously. That journey taught me discipline, resilience, and how to lead under pressure.
I would describe myself as an overcomer before anything else. There were seasons in my life where I had every reason to quit, slow down, or settle, but I refused to allow hardship to define me. Instead, I used those experiences as fuel. Every setback sharpened my vision and strengthened my purpose.
Today, my work extends far beyond photography and design. I mentor youth and adults in business, leadership, life, and personal development. I’ve had the opportunity to help aspiring entrepreneurs launch businesses, build confidence, and pursue purpose-driven careers. One of the things I’m most proud of is creating initiatives that give back to the community, especially underserved youth.
Over the years, I’ve been featured in magazines, highlighted across hundreds of news stations nationwide, and built businesses that generated significant revenue from pure passion, consistency, and faith. But beyond the accomplishments, what matters most to me is impact. I want people to see my story and realize that where you start does not determine where you can go.
Everything I build is rooted in legacy, empowerment, creativity, and purpose. This journey has never just been about business for me. It’s about creating opportunities, inspiring others to dream bigger, and proving that resilience, vision, and faith can truly change the trajectory of your life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road, and I think that’s what makes my journey meaningful. A lot of people see the accomplishments, the businesses, the leadership roles, or the creative work, but they don’t always see the pressure, sacrifices, and personal battles that came with building everything from the ground up.
One of my biggest struggles was learning how to build while surviving. There were seasons where I was balancing entrepreneurship, military service, school, leadership responsibilities, and personal challenges all at once. There were moments where I was exhausted mentally, emotionally, and physically, but still had to show up professionally and continue producing at a high level.
As a self-taught entrepreneur and creative, I also had to navigate spaces where people underestimated me. I’ve had people question my knowledge, my pricing, my leadership, and even my vision simply because I was young, ambitious, or doing things differently. I had to learn very quickly that not everyone will understand your purpose, and not everyone will celebrate your growth.
I’ve also faced health challenges and personal hardships that forced me to slow down and reevaluate life differently. Those experiences taught me resilience in a way nothing else could. They reminded me that strength is not just about pushing forward, but also about learning how to rebuild yourself during difficult seasons.
Another struggle was learning boundaries in business and in life. When you genuinely care about people and pour into others, it’s easy to overextend yourself. I had to learn how to protect my peace, value my time, and understand that access to me, my creativity, and my energy is valuable.
Entrepreneurship itself is not easy. There are risks, financial uncertainty, disappointments, long nights, and moments where you question whether everything you are sacrificing will eventually pay off. There were times I had to create opportunities for myself because doors were not opening naturally. I had to stay consistent even when recognition, support, or resources were limited.
But honestly, every obstacle shaped me into who I am today. The struggles taught me discipline, emotional intelligence, leadership, discernment, and endurance. They strengthened my faith, sharpened my vision, and gave me a deeper passion for helping other people overcome their own obstacles.
I think my journey proves that success is rarely a straight line. It’s built through perseverance, adaptability, sacrifice, and the decision to keep going even when things get difficult.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I do extends far beyond simply offering services. I build experiences, create visual legacies, develop brands, and help people see the value in both their vision and themselves. I am the founder of Kandi & Co. Productions and Kandi Kam Photography, where I specialize in luxury branding, website design, graphic design, photography, creative direction, and strategic storytelling.
On the creative side, I’m known for transforming ideas into elevated, intentional visuals that feel impactful and emotionally connected. Whether I’m designing a brand, capturing a wedding, photographing a graduate, or building a website, I approach every project with purpose, detail, and storytelling in mind. My photography style is often described as editorial, timeless, emotional, and versatile. I have the ability to adapt creatively while still maintaining a signature level of depth and intentionality in my work.
I specialize heavily in weddings, portraits, branding sessions, and luxury visual experiences. I’m also known for helping entrepreneurs elevate the presentation of their businesses through branding, strategy, website development, and marketing support. A lot of people come to me not just because they want a service, but because they want transformation. They want someone who can see the bigger picture and execute it with excellence.
Beyond creativity, I also serve in leadership spaces through mentorship, military service, and education. I mentor aspiring entrepreneurs, creatives, and young adults in areas surrounding business, leadership, confidence, discipline, and personal growth. I genuinely believe success means very little if you are unwilling to help others rise along the way.
What I’m most proud of is not just the recognition or accomplishments, although I’m grateful for them. I’m proud that I built businesses and opportunities from vision, consistency, sacrifice, and faith. I’m proud that I created something impactful without waiting for permission, connections, or perfect conditions. I’m proud that people trust me with some of the most important moments of their lives and businesses.
I’m also incredibly proud of the impact I’ve had within my community. From mentoring new entrepreneurs to organizing initiatives that support underserved youth with prom attire, photoshoots, and confidence-building experiences, I’ve always wanted my success to extend beyond myself. Legacy matters to me deeply.
What truly sets me apart is my ability to merge creativity, leadership, strategy, and emotional intelligence all at once. A lot of people can take photos. A lot of people can design websites. But not everyone can create an experience that makes people feel seen, understood, empowered, and elevated simultaneously.
I’m also extremely multidimensional. I’ve balanced entrepreneurship, military leadership, higher education, mentorship, and service all while continuing to evolve creatively and professionally. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management, later completed my Master of Health Administration in December 2025, and continued building businesses simultaneously. That level of discipline, resilience, and adaptability carries into every area of my work.
I believe people connect with me because I’m authentic. I don’t create from trends alone. I create from vision, emotion, purpose, and lived experience. Everything I touch carries intention behind it. Whether someone books me for photography, branding, mentoring, or strategy, they are receiving more than a service. They are receiving someone fully invested in helping them bring their vision to life with excellence.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Absolutely. I’m a huge believer that growth requires constant learning, reflection, and exposure to new perspectives. Because I balance entrepreneurship, leadership, creativity, education, and service, I consume a mix of business, mindset, faith-based, and personal development resources that help sharpen me both professionally and personally.
Lately, I’ve been listening to Affirmations for Black Girls, and I really enjoy it because it creates space for growth, healing, confidence, and intentional living. As a Black woman balancing entrepreneurship, military leadership, creativity, higher education, and mentorship, I think it’s important to stay grounded mentally, emotionally, and spiritually while continuing to evolve professionally. I’m very intentional about protecting my mindset and surrounding myself with things that encourage purpose, discipline, self-awareness, and resilience.
I also spend a lot of time learning through real-life experiences, conversations, mentorship, and creative exploration. I enjoy content centered around leadership, entrepreneurship, emotional intelligence, healing, faith, and personal growth because I believe growth is not just about business success, but becoming a well-rounded and grounded person overall.
On the creative and business side, I rely heavily on platforms and tools that help me streamline both creativity and operations. Apps like Canva, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, and Wix play a major role in my day-to-day workflow as a designer, photographer, and entrepreneur.
Honestly, one of my greatest resources has been lived experience itself. Some of my greatest lessons didn’t come from a classroom, book, or podcast. They came from navigating entrepreneurship, leadership, setbacks, healing, military service, education, and personal growth in real time. I believe wisdom comes from both experience and the willingness to continue learning through every season of life.
