Today we’d like to introduce you to Meoshia Abrams.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Starting Pathway to Freedom Counseling, LLC came from a deeply personal place — a desire to help people heal, grow, and reclaim their lives despite trauma, adversity, mental health struggles, and life transitions. My vision was not just to provide therapy, but to create a safe and culturally relevant space where individuals and families could feel seen, understood, supported, and empowered. I recognized that many people suffer in silence because of stigma, lack of access, fear, or feeling misunderstood, and you wanted to become a conduit for change and healing within my community.
Pathway to Peak Performance is a pillar underneath my counseling practice that was birthed through my own experiences as a parent watching my children pursue sports and other activities. Seeing their potential — and understanding how much mindset, confidence, emotional control, and mental resilience affected performance — changed the way I approached supporting and preparing them. I saw firsthand how talented young athletes can struggle with pressure, anxiety, self-doubt, burnout, fear of failure, and emotional challenges that often go unaddressed. That experience inspired me to create something bigger than sports: a program designed to help young people strengthen their minds, build confidence, manage adversity, and understand their value beyond competition.
Both initiatives were developed because I believe healing and performance are connected. People perform better in life when they are emotionally healthy, mentally strong, and supported. Whether someone is trying to heal from trauma or become the best version of themselves in sports, school, relationships, or life they need guidance, encouragement, and tools that help them thrive.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting Pathway to Freedom Counseling LLC and Pathway to Peak Performance 501(c)(3) has not been a smooth road. Like many vision-driven organizations, there have been obstacles and sacrifices along the way. Some of the struggles included:
Limited funding and resources
Trying to build awareness and credibility
Balancing personal life, parenting, and professional responsibilities
Navigating nonprofit development and business operations
Finding support systems and partnerships
Managing self-doubt, exhaustion, or moments of discouragement
Convincing others that mental performance training is just as important as physical training
Breaking through stigma surrounding therapy and mental health services
Despite those challenges, the obstacles strengthened my purpose and clarified my mission. The struggles helped shape my own resilience and deepened an understanding of the very people I aim to serve.
We’ve been impressed with Pathway To Freedom Counseling LLC & Pathway To Peak Performance , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The people I hope to impact the most are:
Children and adolescents struggling with confidence, emotional regulation, trauma, anxiety, or identity
Young athletes facing pressure, burnout, criticism, fear of failure, or performance anxiety
Families trying to navigate life challenges and emotional struggles
Individuals who feel overlooked, misunderstood, or stigmatized because of mental health concerns
Communities where conversations about mental health have traditionally been avoided or minimized
My goal is to change the world by normalizing mental health conversations, breaking generational cycles, removing stigma, and giving young people tools that many adults never received. Through therapy and mental performance training, I want to help people realize they are capable, resilient, worthy, and powerful despite adversity.
Providing mental performance training can have a life-changing impact on young athletes because it teaches skills they will use far beyond sports, including:
Confidence building
Emotional regulation
Stress and anxiety management
Leadership Abilities
Discipline and accountability
Healthy self-talk
Resilience after setbacks or failure
Focus and concentration
Decision-making under pressure
Understanding identity outside of athletic performance
These skills not only improve athletic performance but also help young people become healthier adults, students, leaders, and community members. Many athletes are taught how to train physically but are never taught how to handle pressure mentally or emotionally, my work helps close that gap.
Any big plans?
Looking ahead, my plans for the future include expanding both Pathway to Freedom Counseling, LLC and Pathway to Peak Performance into programs that impact communities on a larger scale. This will include:
Developing youth mentorship and leadership programs
Expanding mental performance workshops and camps
Partnering with schools, sports organizations, and community programs
Creating educational resources for parents, athletes, and coaches
Hosting conferences, speaking engagements, or outreach events
Providing scholarships and support services for underserved youth
Building a team of professionals who share my mission and
Creating a lasting legacy that transforms how communities view mental health and youth development
I’m most excited and enthusiastic about creating generational impact — helping young people become mentally stronger, emotionally healthier, and more confident so they can positively influence others around them. My vision is bigger than therapy or sports; it is about transforming lives, strengthening families, and building healthier communities for the future.
