Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaira Baker.
Hi Kaira, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The thing is, I’ve always wanted to model, being on camera comes as natural for me as breathing. I spent a lot of time dedicating to this dream of mine although I really only began taking this seriously in 2020. As fate would have it however, I ended up being diagnosed with Graves’ disease and thyroid eye disease only a year after getting started, and before I knew it my time in front of the camera had come to an end. My condition affected how I looked and more importantly how I felt about myself. And insecurity ravaged within my heart, and I decided it would be best to take a step back from the life that I had known and look at life through a different perspective. That’s exactly what happened after not being able to be on camera. I begin to dig deeper into the world of social media management and photography. I came to love all the intricacies that come with getting a project built from the ground up and creating something that aligned with my vision while simultaneously holding space for me to slowly build my way back to being on camera. At this current phase in my life, now I’m combining my love for both worlds and doing it in a way that hopefully brings awareness to my situation and others that might be struggling with mental health and/or an autoimmune disease like me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road and I’ve often asked myself the big question on whether it’s worth continuing or not. In fact after I first got diagnosed with Graves disease, my eyes were the first to change. Rapidly swelling out of my head until I had to have surgery to get them forced back in. I was left a shell and a different version of the person I once was beforehand. After no longer looking like the girl that I had remembered, I thought it would be best if I stopped being on camera and after a while of living in that darkness, I thought it would be better if I stoped creating content altogether. The thing is, when God puts something in your heart that you really love you can’t just step away from it. No matter how far you stray, you’ll always be brought back to the thing that brings light to your life. For me, that’s transcending worlds in creative, colorful, imaginative ways through my photography, makeup, and cosplays. In fact, I was so determined to not give up at one point despite really wanting to I actually spent two years taking all of my content and photos with my eyes closed. I didn’t realize the gravity of the situation until now honestly looking back and because I’ve been working on my portfolio. You get to see the change and development that I went through. Where once a bright eyed girl that loved life no longer could stomach the site of her own image, but yet managed to create from the remnants that remained, a broken girl with a dream. My condition has settled down for the most part now so I’m starting to build my way back up, creating content that I love again and this time I can’t wait to see the beauty I create with my eyes open.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multidisciplinary artist, creative director, and storyteller who uses visual art to explore mental health, identity, nostalgia, and personal growth. My work blends photography, digital illustration, filmmaking, AI-assisted media, costume design, and product development into immersive experiences that invite people to reconnect with their inner child.
One of my signature projects is a Pixar-inspired creative series where I reinterpret beloved films through original editorial photography and conceptual artwork. Each theme goes beyond cosplay by analyzing the psychological and emotional lessons behind the stories. From Inside Out and emotional intelligence to Coco and generational legacy, I transform childhood nostalgia into conversations about healing, resilience, and self-discovery.
Beyond visual art, I’m building Crybaby Inc.—a creative wellness brand focused on making mental health feel approachable through books, digital products, art prints, educational resources, and storytelling. I believe creativity can be both beautiful and therapeutic, and I want every project to leave people feeling seen, inspired, and understood.
What I’m most proud of is creating work that lives beyond social media. Every series becomes something tangible—whether that’s fine art prints, ebooks, videos, educational resources, or future merchandise—turning ideas into lasting creative assets rather than one-time content.
What sets me apart is my ability to combine fine art, technology, psychology, and storytelling into one cohesive creative ecosystem. I’m not simply creating images; I’m building worlds that inspire curiosity, healing, and imagination while proving that art can educate, comfort, and create meaningful impact.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I think the advice everyone tells you when you want to be a creator or an influencer or just on social media in general is to find your niche. However, I think this couldn’t be further from what you should hear when starting out. In fact, if I could go back in time, I would tell myself to double down on myself, bet on myself. I think the niche so to speak should come from within, and if you’re too busy trying to find what lane you fit in you’ll fall flat in the lane that you’ve already been blessed to be in. The one that comes most natural to you, which is just being yourself. Being yourself garners way more followers, attention, community, and love than trying to fit in a niche just for the sake of fitting in. Forget the box, forget the mold, forget whatever everyone else is doing. Be yourself and do it so damn well that people love you just for being you. You Are The Niche, Show Them Who You Are.
