Today we’d like to introduce you to Demi Howell.
Hi Demi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey has never been a straight line. It has been built through reinvention, resilience, and a willingness to keep evolving. I began my career more than twenty-five years ago in the beauty industry as a hairstylist. Over time, I became an educator, salon owner, and mentor. What started as a passion for helping women feel beautiful on the outside slowly became something much deeper. Day after day, I found myself sitting across from women who were not just coming for a haircut. They were carrying shame, burnout, grief, broken confidence, and stories they had never told anyone.
Those conversations changed me. I realized that transformation was never just about appearance. It was about identity. That realization became the foundation for everything I have built since. Today, I am the founder of Soft Boss Society, a community and movement that helps ambitious women build successful businesses without sacrificing their peace, health, or sense of self. Through workshops, educational resources, coaching, and speaking, my work focuses on helping women heal the patterns that keep them overworking, overgiving, and undervaluing themselves so they can lead with confidence and intention.
One of the most defining seasons of my life was walking through breast cancer. That experience did not change my purpose. It refined it. It strengthened my belief that success without peace is too expensive and that healing is not separate from leadership. It is what allows us to lead well.
Today, I spend my time writing, speaking, creating educational programs, and building experiences that help women redefine success on their own terms. Looking back, every chapter of my life has prepared me for the work I do today. My mission has remained the same. I want women to know they do not have to choose between ambition and well-being. They can build businesses, create wealth, and leave a legacy without abandoning themselves in the process.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Like most entrepreneurs, my journey has come with its share of challenges, but many of mine happened behind the scenes. Building a business is one thing. Building multiple brands while navigating personal hardships, financial uncertainty, and the constant pressure to keep showing up is something entirely different.
One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that growth often requires letting go of an identity that no longer fits. I have had to pivot, start over, and make difficult decisions that did not always make sense to other people. There were seasons when I questioned whether I was building the right thing, but each challenge pushed me to become more aligned with the work I was truly called to do.
One of the most difficult chapters was being diagnosed with breast cancer. It forced me to slow down, reevaluate my priorities, and redefine what success really meant. I realized that if my business could only thrive when I was constantly pushing myself to exhaustion, then I had built something that needed to change. That experience became the catalyst for creating businesses that prioritize sustainability, well-being, and purpose alongside ambition.
Every obstacle has shaped how I lead today. Instead of seeing setbacks as failures, I see them as invitations to build something stronger, wiser, and more meaningful. I believe the struggles are what gave me the empathy, perspective, and conviction to serve others in the way I do today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Soft Boss Society?
Soft Boss Society was created from a simple belief: women should not have to sacrifice themselves to become successful. For too long, ambition has been associated with burnout, constant hustle, and proving your worth through productivity. My work challenges that narrative by helping women build businesses and lives that are both profitable and sustainable.
What makes our brand different is that we do not just focus on business strategy. We focus on the woman behind the business. Through workshops, memberships, educational resources, speaking, and transformational experiences, I help women uncover the patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that quietly shape the way they lead, make decisions, price their work, set boundaries, and define success. When those internal shifts happen, the external results naturally follow.
I am probably best known for blending practical business education with deep personal transformation. My background in the beauty industry gave me a front-row seat to thousands of conversations about confidence, identity, relationships, money, and purpose. That experience taught me that the biggest obstacles are rarely a lack of information. More often, they are the stories people believe about themselves. Everything I create is designed to help women recognize those stories, rewrite them, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
What I am most proud of is that Soft Boss Society has grown into more than a business. It has become a movement for women who want to lead differently. We are creating a space where softness is understood as emotional intelligence, discernment, wisdom, and sustainable leadership, not weakness.
If there is one thing I want readers to know, it is this: success should never cost you your peace. You can build a thriving business, create wealth, lead with confidence, and leave a meaningful legacy without abandoning yourself in the process. That is the heart of everything we do.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think what surprises people most is that I never set out to become a business coach or build a movement. I was a hairstylist. For more than twenty-five years, my classroom was a salon chair. While I was doing hair, women trusted me with the parts of their lives they weren’t telling anyone else. They talked about marriage, money, motherhood, shame, dreams they had buried, and the pressure of trying to hold everything together.
Looking back, I realize I was studying human behavior long before I ever realized it. Those thousands of conversations shaped the way I see people and became the foundation for everything I teach today. The strategies I share were not learned only from textbooks or certifications. They were refined through years of listening, observing, and helping real women navigate real life.
Another thing people may not know is that I am a lifelong learner. I genuinely love studying psychology, leadership, business, marketing, and the way our beliefs influence our decisions. I am constantly reading, researching, writing, and asking better questions because I believe growth starts with curiosity.
At the end of the day, I do not see myself as someone who simply teaches business. I help women see themselves differently. When that happens, everything else begins to change.
