Hidden Gems: Meet Krystal Brown- Harriott of Farusha LLC / MGJ Shine The Light INC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Brown- Harriott.

Hi Krystal, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey has never been a straight line—it has been one of healing, rediscovery, and purpose. I’ve worn many hats throughout my life: academic advisor, mentor, entrepreneur, author, postpartum doula, nonprofit founder, and community advocate. While those titles describe what I do, they don’t fully capture why I do it.

Like many women, I’ve experienced seasons that challenged me to rebuild myself from the inside out. Those experiences taught me that healing isn’t just physical—it is emotional, mental, spiritual, and deeply personal. Instead of allowing those moments to define me, I chose to let them refine me. That decision became the foundation for everything I have built.

Today, I am the founder of The Farusha Brand, where I create holistic skincare and feminine wellness products designed to help women reconnect with themselves naturally. I also founded MGJ Shine The Light Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women, children, and families through healing, education, mentorship, and community initiatives. Whether it’s hosting the Miss Pretty Pum Feminine Wellness Expo, creating spaces for sisterhood through Serenity Society, or developing programs for youth, my goal has always been the same: to leave people better than I found them.

Professionally, I continue to serve students as an Academic Advisor while pursuing my MBA, because I believe learning never stops. Every role I hold reflects my passion for helping people recognize their potential and become who they were created to be.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that purpose often grows from pain. The very experiences that once made me question myself became the catalyst for building businesses, programs, and spaces that help others heal and thrive. My story is still being written, but every chapter reminds me that becoming isn’t about perfection—it’s about having the courage to keep growing.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. While I’m grateful for where I am today, the journey has come with its share of challenges. One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to build while healing. There were seasons when I was trying to grow a business, pursue higher education, work full-time, and lead a nonprofit, all while navigating personal life changes and rediscovering who I was.

As an entrepreneur, I’ve learned that passion alone isn’t enough. Building something meaningful requires patience, consistency, sacrifice, and the willingness to keep going even when no one sees the vision yet. There have been moments of self-doubt, financial obstacles, setbacks, and plans that didn’t unfold the way I expected. I’ve had to pivot, start over, and trust the process more times than I can count.

One lesson that has stayed with me is that setbacks are often redirections. Some of the opportunities I thought I lost were simply making room for something greater. Those difficult seasons taught me resilience, strengthened my faith, and helped me become a more compassionate leader because I understand what it feels like to keep showing up when things aren’t easy.

Looking back, I wouldn’t erase those struggles because they shaped the woman I am today. They taught me that success isn’t measured by how smoothly the journey goes, but by your willingness to continue growing through every challenge. That’s the message I try to live and share with every woman I have the privilege of serving.

We’ve been impressed with Farusha LLC / MGJ Shine The Light INC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have the privilege of leading two organizations that, while different in their approach, are united by one mission: helping people heal, grow, and become the best version of themselves.

**The Farusha Brand** is my holistic wellness company dedicated to helping women prioritize themselves through natural skincare, feminine wellness, and self-care. We specialize in handcrafted herbal products designed to support women’s overall wellness while encouraging intentional self-care. Beyond the products, The Farusha Brand represents a lifestyle—one that reminds women that taking care of themselves is not selfish; it’s necessary. We are also expanding into education through workshops, wellness conversations, and resources that empower women to better understand their bodies and embrace holistic living.

Alongside my business, I founded **MGJ Shine The Light Inc.**, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on empowering women, children, and families through education, mentorship, wellness, and community engagement. Our programs create safe spaces where people can heal, learn, build confidence, and access opportunities that positively impact their lives. Whether we’re hosting the Miss Pretty Pum Feminine Wellness Expo, developing STEAM initiatives for youth, creating sisterhood through Serenity Society, or mentoring the next generation, our goal is to create lasting change—not just temporary moments of inspiration.

I believe what sets both organizations apart is that everything we create is rooted in purpose and lived experience. I don’t build programs or products simply because they’re popular—I create from places I’ve personally walked through. Every product, event, initiative, and conversation is designed with intention and with the hope that someone will leave feeling seen, supported, and empowered.

What I’m most proud of isn’t a specific product or event—it’s the impact. Hearing a woman say she finally feels confident again, watching a young person discover a new passion, or seeing a community come together around healing and growth reminds me why I started. Those moments are worth more than any sales number or social media milestone.

I want readers to know that my brands are about more than wellness products or community events. They are movements centered on transformation. Whether someone purchases a product from The Farusha Brand or attends a program through MGJ Shine The Light Inc., my hope is that they walk away believing they are worthy of healing, growth, and new beginnings. If I can inspire even one person to choose themselves, embrace their purpose, or begin their own journey of becoming, then I know I’m doing exactly what I was called to do.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is knowing that the decisions I’m making today are laying the foundation for my children’s future and for the legacy I want to leave behind. Every sacrifice, every late night, every setback, and every opportunity I pursue is bigger than me. I’m not just building businesses or organizations—I’m building generational stability, opportunities, and an example for my children that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about knowing that the work I’m putting in today has the potential to change the trajectory of my family’s future.

At the same time, I’ve learned that happiness isn’t something we should postpone until we reach our goals. Life itself is a gift worthy of happiness. For a long time, I believed happiness would come after I achieved the next milestone, but I’ve come to appreciate the beauty of the journey. Waking up each day with purpose, having the ability to serve others, watching my children grow, creating meaningful work, and simply being present are all blessings that deserve to be celebrated.

True happiness, for me, comes from living intentionally—knowing that I’m walking in my purpose while embracing the present moment. Success is wonderful, but the greatest joy is knowing I’m creating a life my children can be proud of while remembering to enjoy the gift of life along the way.
