Hi Princess , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a little girl, I was always interested in technology, computers, and media. I knew from a young age that I wanted to do something creative and work with my hands. I loved the idea of video production and even served in my church’s media booth.
As an adult, I finally saved enough money to purchase my first Canon camera to create content for my YouTube channel. At the time, I only used it occasionally to take product photos for different business ventures or to take pictures for friends when they needed them. Photography was never really my passion because I was much more interested in videography.
One day at church, my pastor asked if I owned a camera. I told him, “Yes, but I’m not a photographer. I just use it to make videos.” He told me to bring it to church. I brought it that day, and I have been bringing it ever since.
As I became more comfortable behind the camera, church members and friends began asking me to photograph their events and special moments. My first paid event was only $50, and from there, everything continued to grow. Once I realized I was talented at photography and enjoyed helping people capture meaningful memories, I decided to turn it into a business. That is when Behind The Frame Media & Photography was born.
My journey reminds me of Proverbs 18:16 NKJV, which says, “A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.” My gifts truly made room for me. What started with simply being willing to bring my camera to church opened doors I never expected and allowed me to discover a gift I did not initially recognize in myself. Behind The Frame Media & Photography was built through creativity, faith, service, and a willingness to say yes when an opportunity was placed in front of me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, I have faced challenges with balancing my business, full-time work, church responsibilities, and personal life. There have been times when I had to sacrifice rest, personal time, and other opportunities in order to keep building.
Another major struggle has been overcoming self-doubt. Because photography was not something I originally planned to pursue, I sometimes questioned whether I was good enough or experienced enough to turn it into a business. Over time, the encouragement of my clients, church family, and the growth I could see in my work helped me become more confident in my abilities.
I also had to learn the business side of things, including pricing, marketing, managing clients, setting boundaries, and valuing my work. That has not always been easy, especially when I want to make my services accessible while also making sure my time and talent are respected.
The road has had challenges, but each one has helped me grow. It has strengthened my faith, sharpened my skills, and taught me to keep going even when the process feels slow.

At Behind The Frame Media & Photography, I offer photography, videography, presentation design, and other creative media services. My photography style focuses on candid, natural, and authentic moments. I enjoy capturing people as they truly are instead of making every image feel overly posed or staged.
What I am most proud of is my growth. I started with a camera that I originally purchased for YouTube videos, and I did not even consider myself a photographer. Over time, I continued learning, practicing, and improving with every opportunity. When I look back at where I started compared to the work I create today, I am proud of how far I have come.
What sets me apart is my ability to help people feel comfortable in front of the camera. Many people feel nervous, awkward, or unsure of what to do during a session, so I try to create a relaxed environment where they can be themselves. I want my clients to feel seen, confident, and at ease so their photos feel natural and authentic.
I also pay attention to the moments that might otherwise be missed, such as laughter, emotion, interactions, and small details. I believe those are often the moments that tell the real story.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
One of the biggest resources that has helped me is being part of an amazing community of local female photographers and entrepreneurs. The group was founded by photographer Tamia (Howard) Brown of Memories by Mia, and it has been an incredible source of support, encouragement, and inspiration.
Being surrounded by other women in business has given me opportunities to learn, ask questions, share ideas, and continue growing both personally and professionally. Entrepreneurship can sometimes feel isolating, so having a community of people who genuinely want to see each other succeed has made a meaningful difference in my journey.
