Hidden Gems: Meet Lamon Johnson of 1462 Entertainment LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamon Johnson.

Hi Lamon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
First, I’d like to define what 1462 Entertainment is. We are a nightlife brand promotions company that seeks out emerging and existing events, as well as products in the bar, nightclub, and wine & spirits industries, to educate and promote them to a broader, more diverse, and inclusive consumer base. Our events and promotions bring together people from all walks of life, infused in a stylish, unique, and exhilarating atmosphere.

Now, for how it all began. Originally from the Bay Area—Oakland, California, to be exact—I’ve always been very conscious of acknowledging and celebrating not only my own culture, but also people from different cultures, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds, carrying those lifelong friendships and appreciations with me. After moving to Birmingham, Alabama, for college and to be closer to family, I graduated and started a career in IT. Still, something felt like it was missing.

I started pitching the idea of 1462 to friends, family, and people I’d meet out. I was constantly met with an enthusiastic, “Yeah, you should do it! The South definitely needs spaces and environments that feel organically welcoming and inclusive to all.”

When COVID-19 hit, it forced us all into isolation with more time spent at home. I used that time to fully develop a business plan, acquire an LLC, launch a website, refine brand concepts, and even launch a YouTube channel under the 1462 Entertainment umbrella called “Here, Drink This”—a long-form show centered on nightlife news and spirit reviews.

Once restrictions began to lift, I gathered a few friends for a meeting to bring them aboard. A really good friend offered to host our launch at their home, and it turned out to be a huge success.

From there, I moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama—home of the Crimson Tide and the University of Alabama’s championship college football program. Fully immersing ourselves into that ecosystem, we noticed that Tuscaloosa’s nightlife anchored heavily around the university. This presented a huge opportunity for 1462 to create spaces that not only offer unique experiences, but also educate and promote products to locals looking for something beyond the typical college bar scene.

Since moving to Tuscaloosa, we’ve had the privilege of collaborating and sponsoring events like rooftop day parties and a Halloween rooftop event at The Lookout, located at Hotel Indigo in Downtown Tuscaloosa. A huge shoutout to their team for taking a chance on the new kid on the block!

Since then, as Chief Promotion Officer, my focus has been on networking and building meaningful relationships within the entertainment and nightlife communities. Today, 1462 Entertainment has a renewed commitment to cultivating a community within the wine, spirits, bar, nightclub, and entertainment industries for the whole of Tuscaloosa and beyond. So, be sure to lookout and follow us at 1462 Entertainment on all social media platforms!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. Stepping into the role of a new entrepreneur comes with a steep learning curve, as you quickly realize you have to wear multiple hats at once—balancing community building and event production while navigating and adapting to an entirely new city.

On a personal level, the transition has been rewarding; the local entertainment and hospitality community has been warm and welcoming, helping me build some great friendships. However, breaking into an established market has its hurdles. Overcoming long-standing local routines and convincing people to step out for an event hosted by a fresh, unfamiliar name takes time and persistence. Ultimately, these initial challenges have only sharpened my approach, driving me to build trust, bring real value, and create experiences that truly resonate with the community.

We’ve been impressed with 1462 Entertainment LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
