Today we’d like to introduce you to Ranesha White.
Hi Ranesha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the world of design began unexpectedly when I was a young teen playing The Sims computer game, which first sparked my fascination with the beauty and potential of space planning and home decor. That spark guided me to obtain my degree in interior design from the University of Alabama, after which I spent years working hands-on within both the residential and contract furniture sectors of the design industry.
When the height of COVID arrived in 2020, I found myself exploring new creative outlets and developed a deep interest in learning resin art. What started as a pandemic-era passion quickly blossomed into Intent Accents LLC, which I officially founded in 2021. Over the last 5 years, I have proudly expanded my business to offer a diverse range of handmade home decor essentials, including handmade wall art, floral arrangements, accent furniture, coasters, and much more. Every single piece is meticulously crafted by hand by me, driven by an intense love for bringing both my own creative visions and the unique ideas of my clients to life.
Beyond physical decor, my mission is rooted in making great design accessible to everyone. This year, I am thrilled to have launched a book designed to help people elevate their home decor without spending much money. It is so important to me to help everyday homeowners understand that it doesn’t always take a lot of money or a full-on design service to make your home feel upscale, comfy, and cohesive.
Ultimately, this is truly just the beginning for Intent Accents LLC. I am so excited for what lies ahead, from showcasing my work through upcoming events to expanding into in-person workshops where I can help educate others and build their confidence in their own creative abilities.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe every entrepreneurial journey comes with its unique hurdles, and mine has certainly had its share of challenges. The very first struggle was simply figuring out how to start a business from scratch—what comes first, who do I talk to, how do I fill out the forms, etc. Beyond that, finding a community of buyers who truly understand and value the time, labor, and love that goes into creating handmade decor has been an ongoing challenge. Add in the constant hustle of trying to get consistent engagement on social media and juggling all the day-to-day operations required to keep a business running, and it is a true test of dedication. But every obstacle that I have overcome has only made the journey more rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work centers around creating handmade home decor and functional art, with the business currently best known for our signature resin shot glass trays. These trays have become a staple because the design is entirely unique and not produced anywhere else. Poured over a sturdy wood base to make them exceptionally strong and durable, every single detail can be fully customized—from the colors and handles to custom logos, among other personalized touches. Serving as a true party must-have, our trays make entertaining guests effortless while keeping different types of alcohol neatly organized.
Beyond the physical products, what truly sets my work apart is a deep-seated passion for helping others grow and find happiness through my skills. This desire is the very reason I authored my recent book, actively share technique tips on social media, and will soon be offering in-person classes and workshops. Looking back on this path, what I am most proud of is my courage and resilience. Even amidst moments of confusion, feeling overwhelmed, or feeling overlooked, I continue to show up, give 100 percent, and keep the faith that fulfilling my purpose will lead to even greater things ahead.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Having a resilient mindset is ultimately the most important factor behind my success. It is so easy in this industry to question whether anyone sees your value and to get discouraged when the big opportunities do not come as fast as you hoped. However, the crucial thing to remember is that building something meaningful takes time, and every single step forward—no matter how small—is genuine progress.
Growth requires learning how to mentally flip every apparent negative into a positive, mastering the art of pivoting when things do not go according to plan rather than giving up. At the end of the day, the only true difference between an entrepreneur who is still thriving in business and one who is no longer around is simply that the former chose to keep going.
