Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Piper.
Hi Juliana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The idea for PiperMache actually came out of my own frustration. I’ve run two other businesses, and both times I hit a wall trying to figure out how to build a website for them. I just couldn’t crack it at the time, but I didn’t give up. When a friend asked me to help design a website for her business, I dug into what that would actually take. It’s funny how it’s easier to create something for others rather than yourself sometimes. In the process, I learned Showit, and it clicked in a way nothing else had, it was so intuitive and genuinely helpful that I remember thinking, “if I struggled this much, other business owners probably have too.” That’s really where PiperMache was born: helping other small business owners skip the struggle I went through and get a professional website without the headache.
I’ve also always been an artistic person, and building websites turned out to be the perfect outlet for that, it’s creative work with a clear, practical purpose behind it, which is a combination I love.
The name comes from papier-mâché itself, gathering different materials and layering them into something that actually holds shape and function. That’s how I approach a website: not just a pretty layout, but strategy, structure, and content built in layers so it actually works for the business behind it. Today the studio focuses on Showit design paired with local SEO, Google Business Profile management, and, more recently, Generative Engine Optimization, helping small businesses show up in AI search tools, not just Google.
Alongside client work, I co-founded Madison Mompreneur, a community for mom entrepreneurs here in North Alabama, and I love that it keeps me closely tied to the community I built for. It’s been recognized along the way too, Best of Alabama Regional Web Design Firm two years running, Creator of the Year from the Madison Chamber of Commerce, and a Forbes feature, but honestly, the part I care about most is watching a client’s site actually start working for them.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely, Building PiperMache and co-founding Madison Mompreneur at the same time meant I was essentially running two things that both needed real time and attention, and there’s only so much of me to go around.
The hardest part has been the balance, making sure I still have downtime with my kids when the workload doesn’t exactly slow down to make room for it. Something usually has to give, and figuring out what that is on any given week is an ongoing challenge, not something I solved once and moved past.
Madison Mompreneur has especially grown at a slower pace than I would’ve liked, simply because there are only 24 hours in a day and I’m splitting them between client work, the nonprofit, and my family. I’ve had to get comfortable with “slow and steady” instead of the pace I’d probably choose if I could clone myself.
As you know, we’re big fans of Pipermache Website Studio / Madison Mompreneur. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
PiperMache Website Studio is based in Madison, Alabama, right in the Huntsville metro, but our client work reaches far beyond North Alabama. Websites and SEO don’t have a zip code, so while I love being rooted in this community, I work with small business owners well outside it too.
We specialize in Showit website designs paired with local SEO, Google Business Profile management, and Generative Engine Optimization, helping brands show up not just in Google, but in the AI search tools more and more people are using to find businesses now. That last piece is still pretty new territory, and it’s become one of the things I’m most known for.
What sets us apart is that we don’t treat design and SEO as two separate services bolted together, they’re built in together from day one. I call my approach to SEO the “Jenga Method”: three pillars (on-page SEO, off-page/reputation, and Google Business Profile) that all have to stay balanced, or the whole thing gets shaky. A beautiful website that nobody can find isn’t actually doing its job, so we build for both from the start.
What I want readers to know is this: you don’t have to be a big-budget brand to have a website that actually works for you. That’s who I built this studio for, small business owners who deserve a site and a search presence as strong as their work, without needing an in-house marketing team to get there.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
One person who absolutely deserves credit is Lauren Hooper, my co-founder at Madison Mompreneur. We built that community together, and having a true partner in it, someone equally invested in helping local mom entrepreneurs, has made all the difference, especially on the weeks when time is tight for both of us.
Lauren owns The Minimalist Wallet, where she does personal financial coaching centered on sustainable decisions. I’m honestly so proud of her, she’s helping people get their finances in order while also thinking about the planet, and that combination is rare. Having someone like her as a business partner and friend, who’s building something just as intentional as I am, has been a huge part of what’s kept me going.
