Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwain G.
Hi Dwain, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Like most people, after high school, I honestly didn’t know what my purpose was or what I wanted to do with my life. I tried culinary school for like two weeks but I figured out quick that wasn’t what I wanted to do. I had a couple jobs here and there, just taking my time trying to figure what was my purpose. In 2020 when the pandemic hit like everyone in the world I was stuck at home and had a lot of time to sit with myself. I’ve always been a lover of music all my life. All genres of music from the 50s all the way to today. So during the pandemic I started learning how to DJ. Did a few gigs and I enjoyed it but I figured out quick that as much as I loved DJing and playing others people music, I wanted to make my own. In 2021, I started learning how to create beats, mix & master, and I realized I had my own story to tell, so I started rapping. The first few songs I put out were good but they didn’t feel like me. I wasn’t trying to be somebody I wasn’t in my songs but something just felt off. That’s when I feel like God spoke to me about my music. I knew that i would still make music but it would be music that would speak to people, inspire them and help them. That’s how I got to where I am today and making the music I make.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. When I first started telling people I was making music, many didn’t believe it. I could tell that many people in my life didn’t think this “music thing” would go anywhere for me. Also, the music scene where I’m from isn’t the best. It’s hard to find people who truly love music and it’s not just a hobby for them.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well, my name is Dwain G and I make music. I would say I specialize in writting hooks, writting a good hook really makes the song. Truthfully, I don’t know what I’m known for but I hope when people hear my music they can relate. I am most proud that the music I make is really who I am. What sets me apart from others is that I will always remain who I am, no matter the circumstances.
