Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Erskine.
Hi Sharon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to Chevy Jean Designs began with someone very special to me—my Grand Dad He never called me Sharon; to him, I was always “Chevy Jean.” That nickname stayed with me and became a meaningful part of who I am.
As I began creating and expressing myself through fashion, it felt only natural to carry that name into my business. I’ve always had a fascination with denim—the different washes, textures, and the way it can be transformed into something completely unique. Later, I developed the same love for leather, especially its richness, durability, and timeless beauty.
That’s how Chevy Jean Designs was born: from a cherished nickname, a love of denim and leather, and a passion for turning those materials into one-of-a-kind pieces. Every creation carries a little piece of my story, making the name Chevy Jean much more than a brand—it’s personal.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
“One of my biggest challenges has been not having the time to fully focus on Chevy Jean Designs. I’ve always been blessed with several gifts and talents, and for a long time I found myself going in many different directions. I was creating, working, building, and pursuing different opportunities, but I wasn’t giving Chevy Jean Designs the attention it deserved. I’ve now made the decision to slow down, refocus, and be intentional about where I put my energy. I’m returning to something that has always been a part of me—my love for denim, leather, creativity, and designing pieces that are unique. This season is about focus, purpose, and finally giving Chevy Jean Designs room to become everything I believe it can be.”
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been a hairstylist for the past 33 years, and creativity has always been at the heart of what I do. After spending so many years building my career behind the chair, I made the decision to work part-time so I could give more of my time and creative energy to Chevy Jean Designs.
Chevy Jean Designs allows me to express another side of my creativity through unique, handcrafted pieces using denim, leather, and unexpected combinations of textures and materials. I love creating pieces that feel original, stylish, and full of personality rather than something you can find everywhere.
