Community Highlights: Meet Janine Wiggins, MBA of Resumes By Neen, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to  Janine Wiggins

Hi Janine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born to Garry and Virginia Morrison in Panama, the Republic of Panama, my journey began amidst vibrant cultures and diverse landscapes. Immigrating to the United States during my formative years, my family and I embarked on a new chapter.

Our early years in New York were marked by the hustle and bustle of city life. Yet, it was in the warmth of Alabama that we found our true sense of belonging. From elementary school through to college at the University of Mobile, I laid down roots, nourishing my passion for communication and earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Communication.

Life unfolded with grace and purpose in the embrace of family, including my two younger sisters, Jazmine and Jean, and the joy of witnessing the world anew through the eyes of my beautiful niece, Jordyn. Along the way, I found love and companionship in my husband, Byron, a dedicated US Air Force Veteran whose strength and support have been a pillar in my life.

As the years unfurled, I found myself at a crossroads, yearning for fulfillment beyond the confines of a traditional career. With a leap of faith and the assurance of divine guidance from Jesus Christ, I embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship. What began as a humble side hustle in 2015 blossomed into a thriving business, culminating in the establishment of Resumes by Neen, LLC in 2021.

With each passing year, my faith has grown stronger, and my reliance on letting the Lord order my steps has become unwavering. Completing my Master’s in Business Administration in 2023 was not just a personal achievement but a testament to the power of faith and perseverance. In the ever-changing landscape of the marketplace, I strive to be a beacon of light, giving Glory to God for everything I accomplish.

Every day I have breath in my body is a testament to the transformative power of faith and the boundless possibilities that emerge when we surrender to Jesus as Lord and not just Savior. This means honoring Jesus Christ through my actions, words, and thinking, whether I am conducting business or simply living life publicly and privately. As I continue to navigate the complexities of business ownership, I remain steadfast in my commitment to trust in God’s plan, setting my gaze on what is ahead and shining brightly for His Glory in the marketplace.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Navigating the path to where I am today has not always been smooth sailing. There’s a quote that says, “Life be lifing,” and it did from 2017 to 2019 when I found myself in a battle with gastrointestinal issues. The toll it took on my health was profound as I grappled with severe weight loss and the daily struggle of simply being able to eat and hold down food.

During this tumultuous period, I found myself in and out of hospitals, trying to balance the demands of running my business and maintaining a full-time job while grappling with my deteriorating health. Despite undergoing numerous medical procedures, including three colonoscopies and two endoscopies, the doctors remained baffled, unable to pinpoint the root cause of my affliction.

It was a period marked by uncertainty and despair, where every meal became a battle, and every day felt like an uphill climb. But amid the darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged. Through prayer and God’s divine intervention and wisdom, I made the decision to overhaul my diet, eliminating chicken, pork, turkey, and beef. Miraculously, this dietary change brought relief, alleviating my gastrointestinal woes, and restoring a semblance of normalcy to my life.

Yet, the journey toward healing was far from over. In the years that followed, I made further adjustments to my lifestyle, cutting out gluten and embracing a regimen of regular exercise and wholesome nutrition. But beyond the physical transformation, this experience brought me closer to knowing Jesus for myself.

In the depths of my struggle, I discovered a profound reliance on God, delving deeper into prayer and finding solace in His unwavering presence. Despite the uncertainty of my health, I resolved to serve Him faithfully, recognizing that His love transcended any earthly affliction. It was a moment of my full surrender, where I relinquished control and placed my trust in God’s hands. I remember telling God that even if He did not heal me, I would still serve Him because just Him being God is enough. I realized that God is good for who He is and not just what He can do for me.

To be clear, God did not cause my illness. Sickness and disease entered the world because of sin. However, through my illness, He revealed Himself to be a source of strength and comfort amidst the storm. Through my weakness, He showcased His strength, instilling in me a deepened faith that transcended the confines of my physical condition. In retrospect, I do not view my health struggle with regret, but “it was good that I was afflicted that I might learn your statutes” (Psalm 119:71). Through this health struggle, I drew closer to the cross and reaffirmed my unwavering trust in God’s unfailing grace.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Resumes By Neen, LLC, provides resume and career coaching services for individuals transitioning from a private sector to a government job. We also provide resume services for service members transitioning from the military into a federal or civilian or federal role. My business is set apart from other Resume Services because we specialize in federal government resume writing. Initially, I began by crafting resumes for all positions; however, niching down allowed me to perfect my craft and stand out as a resume-writing business. Imagine having a heart condition and going to a Podiatrist instead of a Cardiologist. Although the Podiatrist is a licensed physician, he does not know the heart’s ins and outs. He knows some things, but his specialty is feet. On the contrary, a Cardiologist specializes in heart matters and can address specific heart issues. Likewise, a federal resume writer like me addresses federal job announcements, application processes, federal interviewing and salary negotiation, and best practices of federal resume writing. Additionally, my team and I provide cover letters, resume reviews, DIY templates, and resources to help job seekers succeed in the federal marketplace.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising, but not shocking, that most people who know me or my work/brand might not know about me is that I have over 100 pairs, and my absolute favorite among them is Converse sneakers. There’s just something about the classic style of Converse and comfort that I find irresistible. Additionally, I love changing my hairstyle often and embracing a variety of styles, from braids to natural hair, and experimenting with various colors and cuts. I’m confident in who the Lord created me to be and love expressing myself through my personal style.
