Conversations with Kacey Rivera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacey Rivera.

Hi Kacey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been obsessed with color and creating art. Growing up, I was constantly dying my hair crazy colors in my bathroom, I knew I wanted to build a life around my creativity and self expression, so in 2019, I got my GED, moved from my hometown in Tennessee and attended cosmetology school.

That’s where I truly fell in love with vivid color. I realized hair wasn’t just a service, it was a canvas for art and self expression.

After graduating, I worked in several salons, but none of them really matched my style or felt like they could help further my creative vision. Eventually, I found my salon home in Tuscaloosa, where I was encouraged to fully embrace the kind of artist I wanted to be. That’s when I was finally able to build a clientele that celebrated creativity just as much as I did and became known for specializing in vivid color and alternative hair.

Now, after 6 years, I’m taking the biggest step of my career by opening my own salon suite out in Vestavia Hills! It’s crazy to think that a teenager from a small town in Tennessee who simply loved colorful hair has built a career doing exactly what she loves. And I feel like this is only the beginning!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting out in the industry definitely wasn’t easy, I spent most of my first few years just learning as much as I possibly could until I found a place that I truly felt like I fit in.

Building a clientele also didn’t happen overnight. It took years of consistently refining my skills, putting my work out there, and earning people’s trust. There were definitely moments where I questioned myself (and still do), but every challenge has pushed me to become a better artist/hairstylist!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
