Conversations with Raemi Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raemi Wilson.

Hi Raemi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I went to school for music. I was on vocal scholarship in college and hated every minute of it. After a few months I decided I needed a career. I thought doing hair would be easy and fast money. I was so wrong, I had a lot to learn and quite a long way to go. I finished beauty school and moved to Birmingham, AL. I worked at quite a few salons and decided to open my own salon behind the summit. I along with my partners had Raymond Bradford Salons for about 5 years. Having your own salon is a huge undertaking and a lot of responsibility so I decided owning was not for me and decided to just invest in my education. I trained with many brands such as Aveda, Paul Mitchell, Joico, Big Sexy, just to name a few. In 2018 I moved to the small but mighty town of Jacksonville, AL (Go Gamecocks!) and worked in a small local salon for about 5 years before moving back to my hometown, Fort Payne, AL. I now work at Lavish Studio LLC and love every minute of it!! My boss Kerri Stephens has made the most beautiful salon that offers most everything you can think of from salon services to massage, permanent jewelry, esthetics and nails! I love what I do and I’m so fortunate I get to share that with my community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are many obstacles in our industry. For one it’s so hard in the beginning to make ends meet. Most stylist work two to three jobs to make ends meet in the beginning but I’m so glad I’ve stuck with it. It makes my day to make someone feel seen and beautiful

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love so much that I get to say that my art walks all over town!! I am a stylist of 27 years and I specialize in natural looking color such as Teasylights, Balayage and Grey Blending. I am most proud of my education and I truly think that sets me apart from others

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t think luck has played any role in my life or business. I believe if you want something you work hard for it
