Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Doaty
Kiara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My hearts desires and gifts have allowed me to become a dedicated social worker specializing in substance abuse and mental health. I earned a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Alabama State University in 2010 and a Masters of Social Work (MSW) with a concentration in Substance Abuse and Mental Health from the University of Connecticut in 2011.
Throughout my career I have filled several roles in social services, human behavior, and both the juvenile and adult justice system, which sparked my deep passion for equality and accessibility in all areas of life. This led me to becoming the founder of Wagnificent Delights. I believe that pets play a pivotal role in the mental health journey for individuals and to ensure the longevity of their partnership, owners should be able to have access to high-quality treats and care products that are affordable.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a new entrepreneur has had its challenges, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to connect with a community of passionate pet owners and animal advocates who share our values. Their support and feedback have been instrumental in our growth and innovation. At the heart of this business is the belief that every pet deserves the best, and through our commitment to quality and equality, we strive to make a positive impact in the pet care world. I’m proud to have created a brand that stands for these principles and excited about the future as we continue to expand and serve more furry friends.
As you know, we’re big fans of Wagnificent Delights. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Wagnificent Delights was founded with the mission of promoting equality in the pet industry by offering pet owners the freedom to create customized treats tailored to their pets’ specific preferences and nutritional needs. We believe that pets are not just animals; they are family members who deserve the same level of care and consideration. Our customers can select from a variety of ingredients to design treats that cater to their pets’ dietary requirements, whether they have allergies, are on a special diet, or simply have particular tastes.
One of our proudest accomplishments so far was being awarded Best of Baldwin 2024: Pet Store, which is a testament to the trust and support we have garnered from our community. Additionally, we were thrilled to be named a Lagniappe Readers’ Choice Award 2024 finalist for Best Pet Store (winner yet to be announced). These accolades reaffirm our commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
The vision behind Wagnificent Delights has always been to ensure that pets are treated with the utmost love and respect, just as any family member should be. We are dedicated to continuing this journey, providing innovative, high-quality products that enhance the well-being of pets everywhere.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I would say that my experience has been a mix of positive and negative aspects. Having grown up in Detroit, MI, I’ve found Daphne, AL to be a lot more laid-back and relaxed in comparison. The slower pace of life here is something I genuinely appreciate, as it allows for a more balanced and less stressful lifestyle.
However, one thing I do miss about Detroit is the accessibility to a wide variety of arts and food options. Detroit’s vibrant cultural scene, with its myriad of art galleries, theaters, and diverse culinary experiences, is something that isn’t as prevalent in Daphne. Despite this, Daphne has its unique charm and local festivals that we actively participate in, which helps fill some of that cultural gap. These events provide a wonderful sense of community and are always a great way to immerse ourselves in local traditions and festivities.
Additionally, Daphne’s proximity to other exciting destinations like New Orleans, the Peninsula, and Biloxi is a definite perk. Whenever we feel the need for an adventure or a change of scenery, these cities are just a short drive away, offering plenty of options for entertainment, dining, and exploration. Overall, while I do miss certain aspects of Detroit, Daphne has its own set of benefits that contribute positively to my quality of life here.
