Inspiring Conversations with Heather Jones of Heather Jones Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Jones.

Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
There I was climbing the ladder rather quickly in a great job, going to school full time, and my husband decided that he wanted to re-enlist in the military.

That decision rewrote the plan I thought I was living. My story started like a lot of military spouses. I was working full-time, and due to a military move had to leave my job. So we get to our next duty station, and as (un)luck would have it, there was a hiring freeze within my field. I found myself pregnant, unemployed, and shockingly relieved.

I hadn’t planned on being a stay-at-home mom. But given the chance, I chose it.

It wasn’t too long after our first baby was born that I started getting antsy. I wanted something more to occupy my time, express my creativity, and generate an extra income.

I explored multilevel marketing for a little while, and that was enough to hook me on something bigger: I liked working for myself. I wanted to build something that was mine.

So in 2018, I opened my first Etsy shop. Over the next several years, I opened two more. I learned a lot, but eventually I had to admit the truth… I wasn’t quite where I was meant to be yet.

I started looking for something different. Whatever came next still had to let me stay home with my kiddos and bring in income for our family, but it also had to meet one non-negotiable: it had to feel meaningful. I had to be making a difference for others.

That’s when I found life coaching. I researched every angle, got certified, and fell in love with it immediately, though I always had a feeling I wasn’t finished adding to what I offered.

That feeling turned out to be right. When I discovered hypnosis, I recognized it instantly as the next step. I dove in, got certified, and built the business I have today.

Looking back, that pregnant, unemployed, shockingly relieved woman had no idea where the road would lead. But she knew enough to follow what felt right, and that’s exactly what got me here, doing work I love, with clients I love even more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It really hasn’t. I mentioned a couple of the hurdles a moment ago, but what I didn’t talk about was all of the self-doubt, shame (yes, shame), and frustration I had along the way.

Every time I shifted into a new entrepreneurial endeavor, I felt the shame of the lie I was allowing myself to believe: that jumping from one thing to the next made me flaky. That I couldn’t commit.

That I was somehow failing at the “figure it out once and stick with it” version of success everyone else seemed to have.

Every time I shifted I dreaded talking about it for fear of judgement. I worried I’d lose credibility.

What I didn’t understand yet was that I wasn’t jumping. I was listening. Every “failed” venture wasn’t a dead end, it was information. MLM taught me I wanted to work for myself. My Etsy shops taught me I needed my work to mean something beyond a sale. Every version of me that quit something was actually a version of me getting closer to who I am now.

That reframe didn’t happen overnight, though. It took a lot of sitting in the discomfort of not having it all figured out, and a lot of unlearning the idea that changing direction was the same thing as giving up.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
There are a few things that set me apart. I offer both hypnosis and coaching, which means I’m not limited to one tool. I also offer hypnosis virtually, which makes this deeply powerful work accessible no matter where a client is located.
And on a personal level, I’m a veteran and a military spouse, which shapes how I understand my clients’ relationship to identity, transition, and reinvention.

What makes hypnosis so powerful is that it goes straight to the root of a belief system, often without the client even needing to know what that limiting belief is. We uncover it together during the session. That’s different from coaching, where a client is working primarily from their conscious mind, their critical thinking brain. Hypnosis works with the subconscious, and the subconscious is estimated to be a million times more powerful than the conscious mind. That’s kind of magical in and of itself.

People are often curious how hypnosis can help them get results so quickly after years of trying to work through something on their own. I lead with hypnosis because of how powerful it is, but having a coaching foundation is what allows me to ask the deeper questions first, the ones that help me understand exactly which hypnosis approach will serve that client best.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that I’m building this business entirely on my own terms, which is exactly what I guide my clients to do. I run a full-time business on part-time hours while staying home with my kids. I’ve built the kind of flexibility that lets me show up for everything that matters most to me, without scrambling to hold it all together.

I’ve found real work-life balance, something a lot of entrepreneurs assume isn’t possible. Many people don’t believe in it. I’m living proof that it is, but only if you’re willing to expand your definition of balance. It’s not 50/50. It’s harmony. It’s flow.

What’s next?
Following and trusting my intuition is what has brought me to every next step in this journey, and that’s exactly what I plan to keep doing.

Will I grow my business? Yes. Do I plan to build a team? Yes. But the specific details of what that looks like, and when, aren’t mine to force. They’ll reveal themselves when the time is right, just like every other step in this journey has.

So while I can’t tell you exactly what’s next, I can tell you this: I’ll keep following what feels true, and I’ll keep building a business that reflects that, and honors each stage of life.
