Meet Andre McMillan of Alabama

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre McMillan.

Hi Andre, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I’m originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I’ve traveled the world and photography has been my way of preserving memories of places I’ve visited and people I’ve met. After high school, I joined the Navy, which took me to places I never imagined. I lived in Spain for a few years and during that time, I also traveled around Europe. I’ve always had a camera in my hand since I was young, and I genuinely have a passion for photography. It’s one of the ways I connect with people. I’m the kind of person who can put me in a room of strangers and I’ll leave with a connection with someone. Around 2019, I became seriously interested in this field. I was living in Destin, Florida, and I had recently gotten married. My wife is from Birmingham, so I decided to move there for work. I thought, why not start my own business? It all started with shooting cars, but it quickly evolved into events like New York Fashion Week, Miami Swim Week, concerts, and even NBA games.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t easy, I had to teach myself the ins and outs of the photography world and I also had help along the way from different photographers I met. I had to spend money on equipment while doing a ton of free shoots to practice and build a portfolio. Even to this day, I still have a long way to go, the hustle doesn’t stop. There is always something new to learn.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Honestly my work can be all over the place sometimes, one minute I’m shooting a runway the next I’m shooting at the circus. I honestly just love the art of photography. If I like the way it looks or have an idea in my head, I shoot it. But if I had to pick one thing that would be known for is my close-up shots of people. I love fine tuning the details of a look with close-ups.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
