Meet Kay Rashad & Reginald Shane Brown of Alabama

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Rashad & Reginald Shane Brown.

Hi Kay Rashad & Reginald Shane Brown, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
One of the most meaningful creative journeys in my life started years ago when I met Reginald Shane Brown. We actually met through mutual friends while working together at a landscaping company. At the time, I was the secretary for Central Alabama Outdoor Depot, and from the beginning, we just naturally clicked. He was always incredibly kind, genuine, and easy to talk to. We bonded over a lot of the same interests and would spend time geeking out over creativity, storytelling, music, and life in general.

At that time, I mainly knew Reginald as a local rapper, but one day he mentioned that he also wrote poetry and stories. That immediately caught my attention. I remember him reading some of his poems to me, and what stood out most was the passion in his eyes while he read. You could tell storytelling wasn’t just a hobby for him, it was personal. It was part of who he was.

Eventually, he emailed me a story he had been working on called Faith. We had already talked a lot about our dreams, our goals, and the things we wanted to create in life, so when I read it, I was honestly blown away. I knew right then that it was something special and something that deserved to be explored further. At the time, I didn’t necessarily know how we would bring it to life or what direction it would take, but I knew it was meant to happen eventually.

He shared with me that he had pitched the story to several people over the years, but nobody really seemed interested. He even tried getting it in front of a well-known filmmaker at one point, but the opportunity was shut down before he even had the chance to fully explain the vision. Hearing that could’ve discouraged anyone, but instead of looking at it as failure, I told him, “That’s alright, we can do it ourselves! As long as we start, we’ll figure the rest out later.”

That mindset ended up changing everything.

Earlier this year, I was going through a very personal challenge where I started occasionally losing my speech due to a condition I was dealing with. I realized I needed to speak more often and exercise my voice, especially because I was already getting into voice acting. Then one day, it just clicked for me: “Why don’t I turn Faith into an audio series?”

I brought the idea to Reginald, and not only did he support it, but he gave me his full blessing and creative freedom to help bring his vision to life. Creating that first episode was a turning point for me. When Reginald heard it and genuinely loved the outcome, it lit a fire in me creatively. Seeing someone experience joy from hearing their written work come alive was incredibly fulfilling.

From there, everything grew naturally. What started as two friends sharing creative dreams evolved into a true creative partnership. Producing Faith Audio Series became more than just a project, it became proof that sometimes the opportunities you’re waiting for don’t come from major studios or gatekeepers. Sometimes they come from believing in each other enough to just start.

And honestly, that’s been the foundation of my journey ever since: creating with purpose, trusting the process, and building something meaningful from the ground up.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, it’s surprisingly been one of the most exciting and fulfilling journeys of my life. Of course, every creative path has challenges, but we wouldn’t describe this experience as a rough road. If anything, it’s been incredibly motivating and rewarding. Faith Audio Series is a hood-mystery filled with suspense, emotion, and real-life inspiration. It was born from Reginald Shane Brown and his personal experience with loss after one of his close friends was tragically murdered, which led him to process his grief through writing. That emotional foundation is woven into the story, where friendship, loyalty, and betrayal collide. In the series, the characters are rocked by the death of B-Ro, forcing Terrence, Cassandra, TonTow, and Kiki to question everything, and everyone around them as they try to uncover who, within or outside their circle, could be responsible.

One of the best parts has been hearing the feedback from listeners. We get text messages, phone calls, and comments from people saying the audio series feels like they’re watching a movie in their head, and that means everything to us because that’s exactly the experience we wanted to create. People will tell us which characters they connect with the most, and since I narrate five main characters, it’s always exciting hearing why certain ones resonate with different people.

I think one of our favorite compliments is when someone asks, “When is the next episode coming out?” literally right after we’ve just released one. That tells us people are emotionally invested and genuinely excited for what’s next, and as a creator, that’s one of the best feelings in the world.

At the same time, Faith has pushed me to explore my own creativity on a deeper level. It made me realize I’m capable of much more than I originally thought. I’ve stepped further into voice acting, storytelling, production, and character development in ways I never imagined before.

There were moments where things didn’t go exactly how I hoped. I auditioned for a few audiobook and exotic reading platforms, and there was one opportunity in particular that I really wanted. They saw my audition, but I never heard back from them. But instead of letting that discourage me, it honestly fueled me even more. It made me pour even more passion, effort, and professionalism into Faith because I realized I didn’t need to wait for someone else to validate my talent in order to create something impactful.

That experience taught me that sometimes rejection isn’t a stop sign; it’s motivation. I took that same energy I would’ve given to those platforms and invested it back into building something with my friend. And in the process, I found a deeper confidence in myself as a creative.

DISCLAIMER: This audio series is heavy on profanity, as I like to tell our listeners, put your headphones on, turn the volume up, grab a snack, and lets ride.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Reginald Shane Brown is one of the hardest-working and visionary people I’ve had the opportunity to work with. He’s incredibly intelligent, creative, and deeply passionate about storytelling. As a writer, he has a natural ability to create emotionally driven stories and meaningful characters that truly connect with people. He had his own cleaning business, a landscaping company at one point, and he’s a clothing and graphic designer. He’s a jack of all trades. What stands out most about him is his dedication; no matter the obstacles, he continues to push forward, believes in his vision, and puts his all into everything he creates.

I’m a creative director, producer, model, voice actor, and storyteller. As the Creative Director for TJK Plus and Genisys Films, I specialize in creative branding, strategy, and film. My work focuses on bringing ideas to life through strong visuals and narration.

I’m most known for content creation, being a photographer, or what I like to call a hoodographer. I see beauty in my lens of the roughest places and possibly people. One thing I’m most proud of is building meaningful projects from the ground up with passion, consistency, and creativity, whether it’s for corporates, non-profits, start-ups, or creatives.

What sets me apart is my ability to combine storytelling, emotion, and direction into one experience. Whether it’s through audio, branding, or visual concepts, I always aim to create work that feels authentic, cinematic, and a memorable experience for my clients.

What matters most to you? Why?
Family is the foundation of everything for us. We honor the people who gave us life, and we also value the responsibility of building a better future for those we’re connected to and those we’ll impact along the way. That sense of legacy keeps us grounded and intentional in everything we do.

Faith is just as important. We give God all the honor and glory because we recognize that without Him, none of this would be possible. We see Him as the source of our creativity, the one who gives us the light and vision we use to create and inspire others.

Confidence is also essential. In this industry and in life, you have to be bold, stand on your work, and fully believe in your vision. Whether it’s art, business, or storytelling, confidence is what allows you to move forward even when everything isn’t fully mapped out. And we can’t forget our listeners and followers. Thank you to those who have been so supportive of our journey to bring this story to life.

At the core, it all comes back to staying grounded in family, guided by faith, and moving with confidence in purpose.
