Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Achenbach.
Hi Jacob, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I went through a lot of family drama and issues as I’m sure everyone does. During that time I spent a lot of it searching for things to relate to within song lyrics. This slowly led me to writing some songs at a young age. Although, it was never a consistent pattern. It would be more poems or short songs I wrote to relate to my own self and reflect on what I was learning through others. As I reached adulthood went through a few issues with people and myself. Those thing led me back to writing poetry. Eventually started working with local producers and finding my own beats on YouTube to do self therapy and grow. Slowly that evolved to me making full tracks that I wasn’t satisfied with but my friends egged me on to release anyways. After that I started releasing music and doing morning affirmations. Those “Wake N Bach’s” were more so designed as a “lead by example” type template to my mentality. A wake and bake where I would praise something or say something relevant to my own life and post it. Mostly as a way to post something concrete and make myself live by that example. Slowly over time released more music and became a lot more self motivated due to that. I have since performed in front of quite a few larger crowds and in many open mic settings. Still getting my feet off the ground but beginning to work with quality artists and producers to make my art at the level it should be.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No I mean like anyone’s road it was bumpy. Mostly friends and people lying or stabbing you in the back. Learning how to trust the right people and be cautious of those I should be. Some trials with substances and directional motivation. Had some issues with venue owners before where we didn’t see eye to eye. Had issues being accepted locally especially at first. However I’ve also found a lot of support and people that believe in me too.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a hip hop artist out of Huntsville Alabama. Typically in the realm of introspective trap to jazzy upbeat styles. I think a lot of people just aren’t what they rap about or carry themselves differently “in character” vs in person. I try to be genuine and not just take part of setting a standard I don’t follow. I think my flow is definitely smoother than most others locally as well. My production, well I’m working on that.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has done a few things and I can’t say I’m not lucky to even be where I am now. To be allowed to get the opportunities I do. Even as little as living in a place I can express myself. However I believe a lot of it is mindset, goals acquisition in steps, and financial aptitude/knowledge to not hold myself back. I thank the luck that I have and the grace of whatever is watching over me like anyone else. However, you can’t get anywhere with luck and poor work ethic.
